VFW Post 10818 serves New Richmond, WI and the surrounding region in St. Croix County and nearby Polk and Pierce counties. In 2018, the Post’s name was officially changed to New Richmond/St. Croix County Memorial VFW Post 10818 to underscore its commitment to serve the 5,000 veterans and citizens beyond the city of New Richmond, throughout the region.
Unlike many veterans organizations, Post 10818 does not operate a restaurant or bar. The Post devotes its activities to helping veterans, active military personnel and their families.
Post 10818 is a recognized leader in providing services to veterans and to the wider community. Among the Post’s many services to veterans are mental health counseling, financial assistance for military families in need, and individual support for veterans in the Minneapolis VA Health Care System and in area nursing homes, including a medical equipment loan program and other medical supplies. For active-duty personnel, Post 10818 offers family support, deployment help, and care packages for overseas troops. The Post provides color guards for public events, national holidays and military funerals, and raises significant funds for disabled veterans through the annual VFW “Buddy”® Poppy program.
Throughout the community, VFW members actively participate in youth programs such as Boy Scouts, with special focus on mentoring Eagle Scouts in their independent projects. The VFW gives numerous annual awards to students and teachers – the Patriot’s Pen and Voice of Democracy essay contests and the Patriotic Art competition – and provides classroom materials and college scholarships. Each year the VFW also recognizes outstanding New Richmond police, fire and rescue personnel.
The key to the continuing success of Post 10818 is its many collaborations with veterans organizations and service providers in St. Croix County. Post 10818 is a leading member of the network of VFW Posts in Wisconsin and works closely with the state VFW, its foundation (the 501c(3) for this request), national VFW offices and the Department of Defense IRT program.
Over the past 12 years, the Post has consistently been recognized as an All-American Post and presented with the National Outstanding Community Service award in recognition of its many veterans programs, increases in membership, and service to the community.
